Accidentally deleted a Jira work item? Finding and recovering deleted data shouldn’t be a complicated process.
Restore Items in Work item History gives Jira administrators a centralized place to find deleted work items, review their details, restore them when needed, or permanently remove them. With powerful search, filtering, bulk actions, CSV export, and reporting capabilities, you can manage deleted work items with greater control and visibility.
The Restore Deleted Work-items section provides a complete overview of your deleted work items. You can:
Restore work items individually or in bulk.
Permanently delete work items.
View deleted work item details before taking action.
Search and filter deleted work items.
Export filtered results to CSV.
Customize the table layout.
Clear all eligible deleted work items at once.
When managing a large number of deleted work items, finding the right one can be challenging.
Use the available filters to narrow down your results by:
Work item key or summary
Assignee
Project
Work item type
Deleted by
Reporter
Restored by
Time range
You can also use More filters to access additional filtering options. When you’re finished, click Clear All to return to the default view.
Before restoring a deleted work item, you can review its information and confirm that it is the correct item.
For individual work items:
Click the Restore icon.
Review the deleted work item details.
Click Restore to recover it.
You can also select multiple work items and use Bulk Restore to recover them together.
Restore Items also gives you control over work items that no longer need to be kept.
You can:
Permanently delete an individual work item.
Permanently delete multiple selected work items.
Use Clear All Work Items to permanently delete all eligible deleted work items.
A confirmation step helps prevent accidental permanent deletion.
Important: Permanent deletion is different from clearing filters. Clear All Filters only resets your search, while Clear All Work Items permanently deletes eligible deleted work items.
Keep the table focused on the information that matters to you.
You can drag and drop columns to change their order and use Reset Column Order to return to the default layout.
Available information includes the work item, assignee, reporter, deleted by, deleted date, deletion status, restore information, and available actions.
You can also sort the table by clicking a column header:
Click once for ascending order.
Click again for descending order.
Click a third time to remove the sorting.
Need to keep a record of deleted work items?
Apply your desired filters and click Export as CSV. The current view and its columns are downloaded, making it useful for audits, compliance checks, or external reporting.
Restore Items also includes a Deleted and Restored Items Report to help you monitor activity over time.
The report provides:
Bar Chart : Compare deletion and restoration activity by date.
Line Chart : Identify trends, spikes, or recurring activity.
Table View : Review detailed entries for auditing and investigation.
You can refine the report using predefined or custom time ranges.
